Hiddenite Gem Mines

I-40, Exit 148 (Hwy 90 West), Hiddenite, NC. Named for the gem found only in this area, this quaint township features Hiddenite Gems/Emerald Hollow (828-632-3394) where the largest emerald in North America weighing 1,686.3 karats was found. The Hiddenite Center/Historic Lucas Mansion (828-632-6966) is a three-story Victorian mansion housing various collections and art galleries as well as a toy and doll collection.

Historic Sharpe House

The historic home of Colonel Silas Alexander Sharpe has stood as a silent witness to the changing fortunes of Statesville, North Carolina since 1866.  Located at 402 South Center Street, Statesville.
